2009 Saw Fewer Fatal Motorcycle Accidents Than 2008
560 people lost their lives in California motorcycle accidents in 2008. Distracted drivers, unsafe road conditions and many other factors led to these deaths, but the fact remains that California needed to make driving a motorcycle safer in the state. The 2009 traffic statistics revealed good news.
Los Angeles Mayor Advocates for Increased Bicycle Safety
During a highly-publicized bike summit held on August 16 in downtown Los Angeles, L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa called for a mandatory bicycle helmet law for all bicyclists across the state. The law would require helmets on bicyclists of all ages, and would be in addition to the law requiring helmets on juvenile riders, which is already in effect.
Motorcyclist and Caltrans Worker Collide, Both Injured
A California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) maintenance worker was involved in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday morning, September 7. The worker was hit by a motorcycle while removing a dead dog from the northbound Bell Street onramp at Highway 101 in Los Alamos.
