The former chief financial officer of Amazon.com was killed in a bicycle accident last Wednesday.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that 50-year-old Joy Covey was riding her bike in Woodside, California, when she was killed.
Covey was cycling around on northbound Skyline Boulevard around 1:30 p.m. last Wednesday when a Mazda minivan turned left onto Elk Tree Road and the two collided.
Authorities pronounced Covey dead at the scene and her identity was confirmed by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.
“She was wearing a helmet, but the injuries were too severe,” said California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel. “She was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Joy Covey rose to fame was the CFO and strategy officer of Amazon.com. She persuaded investors to stick with the company during its money-losing years. She succeeded in convincing investors to stick with the retailer and was listed in Forbes’ 50 most powerful women in 1999.
