SUMMARY

A fatal collision in Oakland between a husband and wife and a man driving a tractor-trailer is still under investigation. The crash occurred just after 9 p.m., Aug. 26 on Interstate 880 near 10th Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the 47-year-old Oakland man died at the scene after the couple’s 1993 Honda Civic collided with the side of the big-rig and became partially pinned underneath it. His 46-year-old wife, who was driving, suffered only minor injuries. However, she had to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver of the 2007 Freightliner was uninjured. He stayed at the scene and cooperated with the CHP.

The woman was treated at Highland Hospital. She is a nurse practitioner at the hospital, where she reportedly coordinates the facility’s pediatric obesity-prevention program and its lactation program. Her husband was a sports psychologist at Oakland’s Holy Names University where he worked with the basketball team. He was reportedly also taking classes at Pleasant Hill’s John F. Kennedy University. The couple has three children. They had been married just three years.

The CHP is asking for anyone with information on the fatal accident, which occurred in the northbound lanes of the freeway, to contact them.

Car accidents can sometimes require extensive investigation to determine the true cause and at fault parties, particularly if there are no witnesses. Victims and their families sometimes have to be patient and wait until all of the evidence is in before seeking compensation. However, anyone who has been involved in a crash where they believe that another party was at fault can still benefit from seeking legal advice early on so that they have an experienced professional to guide them through the process.
