Car accidents impact a wide variety of individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area every day. Two of the most recent prominent area car accidents involve San Francisco 49er Aldon Smith and an airport caterer. Aldon Smith was a passenger in a car which crashed into a tree in Santa Clara County last Friday. The accident occurred when the driver swerved off of the road to avoid a deer.
The crash occurred in the San Jose area near Smith’s home and alcohol was not a contributing factor. The driver’s back was broken but Smith only suffered a cut above his eye which required stitches. Smith was treated at the team’s facility and played well against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Another car accident in the news had worse ending and resulted in the death of a 60-year-old Daly City man. The man was driving on a service road by the San Francisco Airport around 5:30 a.m. when he crashed into the tip of a small plane that had been tied down for the evening.
The cab of the catering company truck was crushed in the accident and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.
