Oakland mayor Jean Quan was involved in a car accident on Sunday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Witnesses say that the mayor was on her phone at the time of the accident and ran a red light. The crash happened in West Oakland around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of 26th and Market Streets.
Quan’s director of communications told reporters that the mayor was “absolutely not on the phone” and that she would happily hand her phone records over to investigators as proof.
Quan took to social media late on Sunday to protest her innocence.
No one was hurt in the accident.
