Kenneth Goodwin killed in Octavia and Market pedestrian accident

The San Francisco Chronicle recently reported the death of Kenneth Goodwin, a 31-year-old disability rights advocate who fought to make San Francisco streets safer for the handicapped.

Goodwin was a 3-foot-tall man who got around the city in a wheelchair. He was fatally hit by a car at the intersection of Market Street and Octavia Boulevard. This intersection is one of San Francisco’s most dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists.

Cellphone Use Suspected in Fatal Lodi Car Accident

San Francisco intersection to become safer for cyclists

At least one SoMa intersection will become safer for cyclists.

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition recently announced that right-turn enforcement has finally been installed at the intersection of Market and Octavia. This will help catch drivers who decide to make illegal right turns onto the freeway.

Motorcyclist converge on City Hall, demand parking changes

San Francisco Chronicle Thursday, May 8, 2003

On the street and not enforcing the law that prohibits “responsible” motorcycle parking on sidewalks.

“And most of all” the Bill of Rights concludes, “we have the right to keep smiling, to keep the rubber side down, and keep on step ahead of the congestion that we help ease” writing when it comes to motorcycles parked on sidewalks, as long as pedestrian access isn’t blocked.

LPGA Voted to Reverse Its Policy

On November 30, 2010, the LPGA voted to reverse its policy that only women “born female” can be LPGA members and participate in LPGA events and schools. This action came as a result of a lawsuit filed by The Dolan Law Firm on behalf of its client, Lana Lawless, in October of this year. Ms. Lawless had applied to join the LPGA and her request was rejected because she, as a transgender female, was not “born female.” Likewise, Ms Lawless, the Long Drivers Association of America (LDA) 2008 world champion, sued the LDA after it changed its rules in 2010 to require that competitors be “born female.”

Investigation: Rampant Prescription Errors at California Nursing Homes

Recent investigations by the California Department of Public Health found some shocking news about California nursing homes. In 18 out of the 32 investigations – all but one in the Bay Area – pharmacists responsible for reviewing the medication of nursing home residents regularly allowed medically inappropriate and potentially fatal antipsychotic medications and did not correct other dangerous drug irregularities.
