San Francisco cycling and pedestrian safety advocates are in a large dust-up with the SF Fire Department. The dispute hinges on the Fire Department’s opposition to bulb-outs and other safety improvements designed to protect bikers and pedestrians from cars.

The San Francisco Chronicle recently reported the death of Kenneth Goodwin, a 31-year-old disability rights advocate who fought to make San Francisco streets safer for the handicapped. CBS News reports that a woman was killed early last month when two trucks collided in San Jose. A delivery truck was driving west on Auzerias Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. on June 13 when it smacked into a dump truck at the intersection of Auzerais and Lincoln avenues.

A 60-year-old Santa Rosa man will spend six months in the Sonoma County jail for fatally striking a 64-year-old Pacifica pedestrian last February. Authorities say that the accident happened around 1 p.m. on Feb. 27 on the 4600 block of Montgomery Road.

An elderly Brentwood woman was recently killed in a pedestrian accident. She was hit by a car at the intersection of Grant Street and O’Hara avenue on Wednesday. The Contra Costa County coroner’s office says that the 74-year-old woman was dead on arrival at Sutter Delta Medical Center.

We have covered many serious pedestrian accidents in our prior posts. Pedestrian crashes are a common occurrence in the Bay Area in part because this is one of the most walkable parts of the country. The amount of locals and tourists on the streets combined with distracted drivers makes some of our sidewalks highly dangerous.

A 56-year-old woman recently suffered critical personal injuries when she was hit by a SUV at the intersection of Geneva Avenue and Prague Street. Authorities say that the crash happened right outside of San Francisco’s Crocker Amazon Playground. Investigators say that a GMC Yukon hit the woman as she was crossing the street. The driver
