In our last post we discussed a fatal accident involving a motorcyclist who was being chased by a car driven by his ex-girlfriend. Although the motorcyclist was able to escape injury in that crash, two Merced County residents did not survive their motorcycle accidents earlier this week.
The first accident occurred on Monday evening around 6 p.m. on El Capitan Way in Delhi. The crash involved two motorcyclists from Delhi, ages 53 and 54. The men crashed into a trailer that was attached to a Dodge truck.
The motorcyclists hit the trailer when the 21-year-old Dodge driver backed his truck and trailer onto the road and blocked both lanes of El Capitan Way. It is unclear whether the driver adequately checked the road before he began backing out of a driveway. The 53-year-old motorcyclist was declared dead at Emanuel Medical Center and the 54-year-old motorcyclist is being treated for serious injuries.
Another fatal crash happened on Tuesday morning near Atwater at the intersection of Buhach Road and Oakdale. The 34-year-old Modesto motorcyclist was traveling on Oakdale Road and flipped his motorcycle when a 68-year-old Winton man drove his truck through the intersection.
The truck driver had a stop sign but continued into the intersection because he did not see the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and hit the side of the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
