CBS San Francisco is reporting that a fiery Brentwood car accident has killed one and injured two. The accident happened Monday afternoon near the intersection of Vasco Road and Camino Diablo Road. Authorities say that a 21-year-old Oakley man lost control of his vehicle and veered into oncoming traffic.
The Oakley man’s car hit a Mercedes head-on which was driven by a 67-year-old San Ramon man and a San Ramon woman of the same age. The Oakley man’s car burst into flames upon impact and the driver of the Mercedes died at the scene.
The San Ramon woman and the Oakley man were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities are still investigating the cause of this crash, including the reason why the Oakley man lost control of his vehicle.
Head-on crashes such as this one tend to be among the most severe types of car accidents. Common causes of head-on car accidents include driver distraction and driver intoxication.
Another major accident occurred in Berkeley on Tuesday evening. That accident happened on I-80 and involved a semi-truck and two other cars. The big rig came to rest on the highway divider and partially in both sides of traffic. Traffic was backed up for hours as emergency crews towed the vehicles and transported at least one person to the hospital.
