A San Francisco police officer was injured early Monday morning after an alleged drunk driver slammed head-on into his car at the corner of Mission and 19th Streets. The Bay City News Service reports that this car accident happened shortly before 1 a.m. and that the 22-year-old suspected drunk driver was speeding on 19th Street when he crossed into traffic and hit the squad car.
The officer allegedly suffered neck injuries in the crash and was hospitalized. It is unclear what injuries, if any, the drunk driver suffered or whether he was arrested at the scene.
Drugs and alcohol are suspected contributing factors to another accident near San Jose. Authorities say that a driver was speeding along Interstate 880 early Saturday morning when he lost control of his vehicle and hit an embankment and a ditch. A 19-year-old passenger in the car was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene near the Old Bayshore Highway off-ramp.
CBS News reports that investigating officers think that the 19-year-old San Jose driver was under the influence at the time of the crash. His deceased passenger is from Milpitas. It is unclear whether the passenger was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
