An elderly Brentwood woman was recently killed in a pedestrian accident. She was hit by a car at the intersection of Grant Street and O’Hara avenue on Wednesday.
The Contra Costa County coroner’s office says that the 74-year-old woman was dead on arrival at Sutter Delta Medical Center.
The driver who hit the woman was a 43-year-old man who police believe was under the influence of a controlled substance. The exact substance has not been reported.
KGO-TV reports that the man was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, drug possession and DUI resulting in injury.
The man was also reportedly arrested for child endangerment because there was a girl in the car the time of the pedestrian accident. The girl suffered minor injuries in the crash but was not taken to the hospital.
This is one of several recent Bay Area pedestrian accident. About a month ago a Recology garbage truck hit two people including a young girl along San Francisco’s waterfront. Authorities say that the girl’s legs were crushed underneath the truck’s wheels but that her injuries were not life-threatening.
