Danville authorities say that a 17-year-old high school senior was killed last night when a car crashed into a tree near El Capitan Drive near Claridge Drive.

The car accident happened around 9 p.m. close to the Crow Canyon Country Club. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that three high school students were in the car and that the teen who died was a passenger.

This accident is still under investigation but police say that drug and alcohol use are not suspected. The teens were reportedly traveling home from a fishing trip.

“He was looking forward to his SATs because his goal was to get into UC Davis,” a family friend said of the deceased teen. “The world will miss someone that contributed greatly and affected so many others around him.”

The teens went to San Ramon Valley High School and a school district spokesperson said that grief counselors will be available on the first day of school.

Car accidents are the leading killer of Northern California teens. Most teen car accidents are attributable to driver inexperience and distracted driving, but it is unclear whether these were contributing factors in this crash.
