There is a seasonal spike in motorcycle accident deaths around the country during the summer.
Several young California men were killed in June in motorcycle accidents across the state.
One of the accidents involved an off-duty police officer in San Bernardino County. KTLA-5 reports that 26-year-old officer Thomas Chamberlin was killed on June 11th in the Angeles National Forest.
Authorities say that officer Chamberlin was driving on a winding mountain road near Azusa when he lost control of his bike and crashed into the side of the mountain. He suffered substantial head injuries and died after being airlifted to the USC-Los Angeles County Medical Center.
Another man was killed outside of the town of Atwater, in Merced County on June 24th. Authorities report that Atwater police officers attempted to pull over 25-year-old Matthew Arrellano Paglino after he was spotted doing driving tricks on his motorcycle.
The Sun-Star reports that Paglino sped away from the California Highway Patrol officer, lost control of his motorcycle and hit a curb. His motorcycle flew into an intersection and hit a bus, killing Paglino.
The same day a Pacifica man was killed in Daly City. Authorities say that 24-year-old Miguel Mallorca was killed after losing control of his motorcycle Highway 1, near Southgate Avenue.
Mercury News reports that Mallorca’s motorcycle caught on fire and he sustained fatal head injuries in the crash. He died during surgery at San Francisco’s General Hospital.
