For people who are driving on the California roadways, taking a look at some of the reasons why insurance rates are increased can provide an interesting look into some of the drivers’ habits in the state. In each case of why the rate is hiked up, it is important to note that the driver was partaking in an activity that could harm others on the roadways. That potential for harm makes it more likely that they will be involved in an accident that might cause injuries.
One reason for car insurance rate increases for individual drivers is reckless driving. Getting a ticket for reckless driving can increase a driver’s car insurance rate by more than 100 percent in California, which places the state second on the list for highest insurance rate increases for this charge. The rate hike here is higher than the national average of 83.29 percent.
Another reason for car insurance rate increases for individual drivers is speeding. The average rate of increase for this infraction is 29.26 percent if the ticket is for speeds 31 or more mph over the speed limit. Car insurance rates here can increase by 30 to 40 percent after this speeding infraction.
Drunk driving is another cause for rate hikes. California is ranked third on this list with a hike of more than 100 percent if a person is caught driving drunk. The national average rate hike for drunk drivers is 92.49 percent.
Any action that violates the driving laws in the state can result in a ticket. They can also lead to an accident. If you have been injured in an accident caused by a traffic infraction committed by the other driver, you have the right to seek compensation for those injuries.
