Motorcycle OK: Standing Up for Motorcyclists on the Road and in the Courtroom

motorcycle accident.jpg

Motorcyclists often have a difficult time explaining why they ride to people who don’t ride.

“Driving in a car can be like watching the world go by on a TV screen,” Matt Gramly, one of the leading motorcycle accident attorneys in California, states. “The car itself is a barrier between you and the world outside, nothing touches you, and nothing invades your space. When you are on a bike you are alive, one with the road and world outside.”

False Promises To Work In Tech Industry Can Be Basis For Lawsuit

Downtown SF at Night.jpg

Today’s question comes from Irving M. from Ingleside Terrace who asks, “I was living in New York working with a steady job in e-commerce. I was approached by a company here in San Francisco which was a start-up company. The job sounded great and I wanted to move to the Bay Area. Since I have a ton of student loan debt I needed to make sure that the job was legit so I asked lots of questions about their products and financing. I was told that they had raised money from venture capitalists and had been through the angel and seed rounds of financing and were about to close on another round of financing. I was told they had a solid product line and I was convinced to quit my job and move to San Francisco only to realize that the company is not doing well and is cash starved. I wouldn’t have left New York had I known the truth. While the company is running out of money, the guy who hired me and made the company seem so great is very rich. What can I do?”

Irving, this is a situation which we see all too often here in the Bay Area. Employer fraud runs back to the gold rush where people were misled as to their prospects so that a ready supply of cheap labor could be provided.

How Driving Speeds Correspond To Pedestrian Injuries And Deaths

When you’re a pedestrian, you should be aware that walking near roads and across intersections puts you at risk of being in an accident. If you’re hit, there’s a risk you could suffer serious injuries or be killed. While you can always seek compensation when a negligent driver hits you, it’s important to know the risks you face when you’re around local traffic. What’s the likelihood you’ll be injured in a crash?

What Can I Do About The Neglect And Abuse My Elderly Father Experienced?

o-SAD-OLD-MAN-facebook.jpg
Today’s question comes from Barbara M. in Marin who asks, “My father was in a skilled nursing facility for the elderly in Marin County. He was 82, had trouble walking, and was basically confined to his bed or a wheel chair (the chair was not used frequently). Dad had some dementia and had bowel and bladder problems so he was also in an adult undergarment. There were times I would come in and find him in bed, soaked in urine and/or feces. The nurses said that they were understaffed and they were doing their best. Dad developed severe ulcers on his bottom that became infected and he died. I feel so bad and angry that they treated him this way. What can I do about it?”

California Bicycle Laws & Bike Safety Summary: 2016 Update

Today is Bike to Work Day in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a proud sponsor of the Marin, San Francisco, and East Bay bicycle coalitions, I want to take a moment to remind everyone about bicycle laws and the rights and responsibilities of car drivers and bicyclists on our roadways.

Bike lanes are just that: lanes designed for bikes. Many are painted with a solid white line; some are green with a solid white boundary. California Vehicle Code Section 21209 restricts motor vehicles from driving in a bike lane except to: a) park where permitted, b) enter or leave the roadway or c) to prepare for a turn within a distance of 200 feet from an intersection.

California Considers Gender Neutral Bathroom Policy To Aid Transgender Rights

The battle to protect the rights of transgender individuals is fought on many fronts. The California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) establishes that transgender people have the same civil rights in housing and employment as every Californian. Of course, having the law on your side is not the same as being free from harassment and discrimination. FEHA is an important tool in the fight for equal treatment, but more needs to be done.

Are Laundry Detergent Pods Safe In Households With Young Children?

laundry pods.jpg

This week’s question comes from Susan in Bernal Heights. She asks, “Chris, I heard recently that thousands of young kids are poisoned each year from eating laundry pods they think is candy. Why isn’t anything being done to protect our children?”

Susan, thank you for raising this issue. As a parent myself, I find it deeply troubling that some of the nation’s largest corporations are selling an extremely toxic household product and have failed to take all reasonable measures to safeguard our children from accidental exposure to the product.

Editor’s Note:  If your child suffered a grave injury after accidentally ingesting detergent in a laundry pod, please click here to contact.  We will review your claim for free and with no obligation on your part.
