Downtown Oakland Hit And Run Crash Occurred At Harrison And 23rd Streets
Oakland, CA, (June 9, 2017) – Robert Bennett was killed on the morning of Friday, June 2, 2017 while crossing the street at Harrison and 23rd Street. An Oakland Police Department spokesperson stated Bennett was hit by a dark grey Chrysler van traveling northbound on Harrison.
Police also stated that the driver left the van momentarily, looked at Bennett and then proceeded to drive off. No description of the driver has been released. Police also do not know if Bennett was in the cross walk at the time of the incident.
Bennett was a nonprofit leader who headed a social justice consulting firm. In 1984, Bennett founded the Oakland-based consulting firm Resource Development Associates. The nonprofit assists Bay Area governments develop policies and programs on juvenile justice reform, treatment for mental health, homelessness, and other issues. Bennett also served as the President and CEO of the Felton Institute, a San Francisco nonprofit that provides treatment among other services to low-income families, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.
