Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable individuals on area roads. Many California motorcycle accidents occur because cars suddenly enter the path of a motorcycle and the motorcyclist does not have the time or ability to respond without laying the bike or crashing into the car.
A serious motorcycle accident occurred on I-80 this morning and injured a California Highway Patrol officer who was on his bike. Authorities say that the accident occurred around 7:40 a.m. when a Toyota was rear ended by a Chevrolet during a lane change. The impact of this accident them pushed Toyota into the carpool lane where the motorcycle officer was approaching.
The motorcycle officer was thrown from his bike when he was ejected from his vehicle. “He had non life-threatening but major injuries is what we have been told,” said a police spokesperson.
Another serious motorcycle accident occurred this weekend on Highway 267. That accident happened on Saturday when a 56-year-old motorcyclist from Lake Tahoe hit a truck. The motorcyclist was attempting to pass the truck when it suddenly made a left-hand turn into a parking lot. The motorcyclist was ejected and ultimately died of his injuries. The driver was slightly injured in the crash and CHP is still investigating it.
