Pedestrian accidents are a year-round problem in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. There are many common contributing factors to pedestrian accidents including driver distraction and drunk driving. It is unclear whether drunk driving played a role in the most recent Bay Area pedestrian accident which killed one person this weekend.

The crash happened in Walnut Creek when a 53-year-old man jumped a curb and rammed into a family of four. The Contra Costa Times reports that a 52-year-old woman was killed in the crash and that her daughter-in-law was hospitalized with life-threatening conditions. Her current medical progress is unknown.

The deceased woman was a Los Olivos math teacher who was in town visiting her newly married son. It is unclear whether her husband and son were the other victims of this pedestrian accident.

Authorities arrested the driver under the suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. Police say that the man has two DUI convictions and they are investigating whether drugs and alcohol played a role in this particular crash. The DUI convictions stem from 2005 and took place in Ventura County according to the Contra Costa Times.

The young couple involved in the crash recently got married and moved to Walnut Creek from Santa Barbara.
