Several recent San Francisco Bay Area traffic accidents have raised safety concerns surrounding the prevalence of bad driving behavior which kills hundreds of Californians every year.

One common cause of Bay Area car accidents is drunk driving. Intoxicated driving is highly dangerous and is linked to some of the most severe accidents in the area. Studies have shown that even a single drink raises the likelihood of a serious car accident. The likelihood of a crash involving catastrophic injury or death continues to increase incrementally with every .01 percent blood alcohol level increase of a driver.

A 26-year-old San Francisco woman caused one of the most recent area DUI crashes. Authorities say that the woman was driving a Lexus early Saturday morning when she hit a buffer near the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza. In addition to being wholly unable to safely operate her vehicle, the woman was also belligerent and violent. California Highway Patrol officers say the woman kicked a CHP officer in the face and also spit on him as he attempted to arrest her.

Another serious accident occurred on the same day in Oakland. Authorities say that a three vehicle crash happened shortly have 10:30 a.m. Saturday at I-800 and the High Street off ramp. The crash involved two vans which both flipped on the road. Speed and distracted driving may have been to blame for this crash.
