Hayward police say that a pedestrian was killed after he was struck by a 26-year-old motorcyclist at the intersection of Jackson Street and Silva Avenue. The crash happened Saturday around 9 p.m. according to officers. Responding officers found the 66-year-old pedestrian lying on the corner of the intersection and the motorcyclist was lying several feet from the intersection.
Both individuals were taken to Eden Medical Center for treatment. The motorcyclist was injured after being ejected from his motorcycle but was wearing a helmet and is recovering. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Hayward police told CBS San Francisco that they are still investigating the motorcycle crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor.
Another motorcycle accident was reported in Temecula on Saturday. The accident happened around 3:20 p.m. when a motorcyclist was unable to safely react to abruptly slowing traffic. The motorcycle was flipped over, but the motorcyclist is expected to survive his injuries.
A third California man was hospitalized on Saturday after a Lucerne motorcycle accident. Authorities say that the man was driving too quickly and crashed into a power pole around 5 p.m. near the Nice-Lucerne Cutoff. CHP officers say that the man’s injuries are considered serious.
