A local medical resident is dead after a Northeast Fresno pedestrian accident. Authorities say that a driver ran over the 30-year-old emergency medical resident as she was walking in a crosswalk with a friend. The accident happened at the corner of Shepherd and Champlain on Friday night.
The woman was from Virginia and a resident at the UC San Francisco-Fresno medical program according to KFSN-TV. The TV station interviewed the young doctor earlier this year in which she told reporters that she aspired to be a trauma surgeon. The story focused on medical students in the Fresno area.
It is unclear why this particular accident happened or whether it is attributable to a drunk or distracted driver. Witnesses to the accident say that they tried to give CPR to the woman, but she was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The director of UCSF’s medical program said that the woman was an impressive student and will be missed by her colleagues.
“She had a long track record of walking the walk and talking the talk as far as serving those most in need from her work at CDC in Georgia to her work in Nairobi working with orphans with HIV,” the emergency medical program director said.
