Authorities are looking for former Billionaire Boys Club member Reza Eslaminia in connection with a fatal San Francisco pedestrian accident.

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office intended to charge Eslaminia for fatally injuring a 38-year-old pedestrian in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District last fall. Eslaminia was driving a cab when he allegedly ran through a red light and hit the pedestrian.

Eslaminia was freed during the investigation, and the San Francisco Chronicle reports that felony charges may never stick against Eslaminia due to sloppy police work.

Investigating police officers failed to take adequate measurements of the crash scene and did not test Eslaminia for drugs and alcohol. This means that prosecutors are missing vital evidence that may be required to bring a felony case against Eslaminia.

Eslaminia was formerly part of the Billionaire Boys Club, a Ponzi scheme that was billed as a social and investment club for sons of wealthy Southern California families. The group turned to murder after running short on funds, resulting in a series of trials that were heavily covered in the tabloid press. A miniseries based on the group aired on NBC in 1987.

Although Eslaminia was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his father in a botched kidnapping scheme, he was released from prison on appeal.

An arrest warrant was issued for Eslaminia in connection with the pedestrian accident at the end of March. Eslaminia is expected to face misdemeanor charges.
