A 16-year-old Abraham Lincoln High School student was killed Friday morning when a speeding driver slammed into his mother’s van.
Authorities say that the accident happened in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood. Authorities say that a 58-year-old female driver was speeding up to 80mph in a 25mph zone just before 7 a.m.
The woman’s Mercedes slammed into the student’s van at Pine and Gough Streets. She also hit a delivery van with three people inside.
“This is about as ugly an accident that I’ve ever seen,” Police Chief Greg Suhr said. “And when you lose a child, it just doesn’t get worse than that.”
In addition to the deceased teen and Mercedes driver, four other people were taken to the hospital.
Police officers added that the driver may be criminally charged once she is released from the hospital. She was not seriously injured.
Aerial images of the crash show two cars flipped over with extreme damage.
“I saw the car going fast, but there was another car sitting there, a van was sitting there, and it got bopped, and I watched it flip over,” a witness said.
