On Sunday, at approximately 5:00 a.m., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on the westbound lanes of State Route 60 (SR-60) in Hacienda Heights, California, involving a Nissan sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a commercial tour bus.
According to preliminary information released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Nissan SUV was stationary in a travel lane when it was struck from behind by the tour bus. Following the initial impact, the tour bus reportedly veered across all westbound lanes and subsequently collided with a guardrail along the right shoulder.
Emergency personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived to find the SUV fully engulfed in flames. The sole occupant of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At the time of the incident, the tour bus was reportedly transporting 63 passengers. Although the bus did not catch fire, two individuals sustained critical injuries, and a total of 32 passengers were transported to local hospitals with varying degrees of injury.
Visual evidence from the scene depicts significant front-end damage to the tour bus, including a shattered windshield. CHP confirmed that the bus was traveling from the Indio area to Koreatown in Los Angeles at the time of the collision.
The incident resulted in substantial traffic disruption, with westbound lanes of SR-60 partially closed for several hours before being reopened later that morning.
