San Pablo Police Officer William Zink Was Riding Own Motorcycle When Fatal Collision Occurred
Vallejo, CA (September 29, 2016) – A motorcyclist riding a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle was struck and killed by a Freightliner heavy truck on Interstate Highway 80 just before 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016.
The big rig collided with a motorcycle on the westbound portion of I-80, in the commute direction.
Update:
The motorcyclist that died on Interstate 80 was identified as San Pablo Police Officer William (“Ken”) Zink of Dixon. Zink was driving his personal motorcycle between a Nissan Titan in one lane and a Freightliner truck with a flatbed trailer in another lane on I-80. Zink was thrown from the bike and struck by the big-rig after his motorcycle collided with the Nissan. He was pronounced dead at 6:45 a.m.
Investigators with the California Highway Patrol report that Zink was lane-splitting on westbound I-80 in Vallejo when the Nissan hit his motorcycle. Zink, who’s best known by his middle name Ken, was thrown off his bike and then run over by a tractor-trailer.
